Instead, we know that’s a day when our phones are going to be ringing steadily from customers who overworked their garbage disposal or have a guest shower or bath go bad on them in the midst of Thanksgiving festivities. There’s no way to put it other than to say that kitchen sinks and garbage disposals take an absolute beating on Thanksgiving when everyone goes into family feast overdrive. That’s when the garbage disposal can get treated like a second garbage can and wind up getting clogged with grease and other nasty stuff, waiting to back up at the absolute worst time possible. To prevent that, we recommend testing and cleaning the disposal before it’s time for heavy Thanksgiving use, and paying attention to any smells it might be giving off.
One thing we absolutely recommend staying away from is Drano or any other chemical cleaner normally used to clean drains and pipes. The biggest reason is because those solutions are toxic and can be harmful if they splash back out of the sink, plus they can wreak havoc on the brass and copper hardware in your plumbing system, which creates more problems waiting for you down the road. Instead, we recommend using an enzyme-based product like BioOne ahead of time to make sure your pipes are ready for the big day. As for the guests baths that get used during the holidays but might be idle most of the year, it’s a good idea to give them a test run before the company comes over to make sure there’s no pipe blockages or other issues that can pop up when they’re getting used multiple days in a row. If there’s an issue during the test run, a camera inspection can help pinpoint whatever problem needs to be cleared up and we can very easily help get those lines cleared and ready for all the water use that comes when family invades for Turkey Day.
