We haven’t added dog biscuits and kibble as a line item on our personnel budget here at Ensor Plumbing, but there’s no denying that our company dog Sadie has become a valuable part of the team. Sadie came to us about five years ago when my father found her on the side of the road and was able to corral her and bring her back to the company property with him. We think she’s some kind of an Australian herding breed who’s about 10 years old, and has taken the run of the property here, meeting up with our guys at the work trucks and always looking for a treat. It took a while to get Sadie used to people since we think she’d been on her own for a while, but she’s become a friendly face here at Ensor and always comes looking around when someone new is on the territory that she needs to check out. Sadie mostly keeps to herself though, but is still a welcome face to see that can brighten up a gloomy day around the office and we’re glad to have her here. Since November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month we got thinking about the role that pets can play in people’s lives, and how they can fit into a business environment as well. The Ensor family has always been very pro-pet and when I was young we had about four or five dogs we rescued over the years. Another furry face that was a regular around the office recently was Elsa, my family’s German shepherd puppy that I brought in when we were getting her trained. It was good to have her there following me around, and even though she would bark some times when I was on the phone on an important call, there’s lots to like about having a company pet that makes themselves a part of everyday work life.
