Avoiding Hair-Raising Hard-Water Problems

Spring is in the air and with Easter, Mother’s Day and summer parties in our near future, you spend a lot of time and money on looking nice for those parties and family get-togethers. But there’s something lurking nearby that can counteract all your efforts, particularly when it comes to your hair.

The condition and quality of your water could be the culprit for many hair, scalp and skin problems. Over 85% of the country shampoos in hard water, packed with minerals and harsh chemicals. Build-up from minerals and its interaction can be a trigger for hair color fading, poor grey coverage, brassy blondes, muddy or ashy hues or hair that is weighed down and lacks bounce and luster. If your hair’s highlights fade just a few weeks after leaving the salon, you should ask us about water conditioning for your home. Mineral deposits can also often cause a heated chemical reaction when combined with hydrogen peroxide, bleach powder and oxidative colors. Even chlorine can interact with minerals in hard water and affect your hair color.

A person might not know when and which deposits are going to cause a reaction or create an allergy. Not only do our physical bodies change from year to year, so do the properties of the water itself!  And well water can change with each season.

It’s a good idea to remove deposits before any chemical process, as many days beforehand as it takes for natural oils to build back up. It’s a good idea to do an in-salon intense treatment even without having a chemical process to avoid the damaging effects of having deposits on the hair.

It’s also an excellent idea to have Ensor Plumbing review your home’s water sources to see if a single solution in your master bathroom or shower is the answer, or if a whole house water softening solution is what is needed. Soft water can help remedy problems with your hair, skin, and taste without the need for special rinses or products specifically for hard water.

Hard water solutions don’t have to be “hard.” You just need to know the right professionals.
